‘I believe in the mystery and melancholy of a hand,

in the kindness of treesin the wisdom of light.’

J G. Ballard

This quote, which resonated with me as a teenager, now holds an even greater significance, succinctly summing up as it does, how I feel about making art.

The unique experience of being human, our sense of connection to each other and the world around us, the aesthetic, joyful, spiritual qualities of light, colour and organic forms, all inform my art practice.

I work from home in a peaceful studio at the end of my garden. If you would like to arrange a studio visit and view my work in person as well as see work in progress please get in touch

I begin with an emotional response to a person or place, and, working from sketchbooks and photographs, build up an image that reflects the qualities of that subject.

Compassion and empathy are essential elements for portraiture, as I want the viewer to feel a sense of warmth and connection with the subject.

The natural world is full of light, movement and life and my paintings celebrate this. All of these qualities are also to be found in my abstract work, which originates intuitively from an internal sense of movement, colour, light and emotion.

Drawing upon my experience as a classical musician and therapist, I bring a unique blend of sensitivity and awareness to my work, coupled with a strong dedication to profound expertise and genuine authenticity.

My art practice has developed in the last few years from hand drawn portraiture into landscape, figurative and abstract in a range of materials including oil paint, charcoal and watercolour. My paintings and commissions are in homes across Britain and have featured in a number of recent exhibitions including the Scottish Portrait Awards 2022.
